The projects through its development have changed several times as some ideas were not possible, and in some areas, we had to make compromises. For example, in the initial Ujet, we had pedals. We killed the idea because pedals are drastically affecting the overall ergonomics of the vehicle. As with pedals, the user is not using rotation but is pushing the pedals with the weight of their body. Moreover, pedals must be always placed in a very specific place in relation to the seat. And because of that one cannot apply the magic triangle of the ergonomics - feet, seat (center of gravity) and hands position.
In mechanical engineering, we had to have an unprecedented approach as well. We have combined the seat, battery and the frame, and were viewing it as a singular development, whereas usually, engineers create the frame separately, then adding battery with battery houses, fixing system and the seat as a separate element. Thus, combining these 3 elements we created something new, provided great weight reduction, improved ergonomics and re-invented not only the product itself but foremost the approach for the development.
The other question we asked ourselves was what the functionality of the smartphone would be. We had a vision of a smartphone being the key element. Ujet Founders Series has the infotainment system for doubling your smartphone on board.
Ujet Founders Series is a summary of the most advanced technologies in a lot of areas, and the main uniqueness of Ujet is in combining them. We have fitted a very small object with all these technologies, including high-tech IoT, materials science, electronics, hardware, and real mechanical engineering. As an example, Ujet is equipped with the over-the-air update system, which required us to build a complicated infrastructure and a lot of very specific parts of the software.
One of the unique and key features of Ujet is its in-wheel brushless motor, lightest in its class with a maximum power of 3.6 kW (4.9 hp equivalent). To get there we have developed 5 different motors with different partners, some of them were indeed great inventions, yet only possible to be produced on a small scale due to the complexity of engineering. Through enormous amount of trials and testing, we reached the point of the mass-produced, lightweight and extremely efficient motor.
